The Museum owes its origin to the private collection of Colonel Charles Paul Nel, who was a successful businessman and a collector of antiquities. A day before his death in 1951, he officially entrusted his collection to a Board of Trustees. Over the years the collection has been considerably enlarged.

Rus en Vrede Waterfall
The waterfall is hidden among the bracken-clad heights; therefore a walk over little bridges is required along the mountain trail. You are inspired by the beautiful wild flowers that bloom in great profusion alongside the path while far below amidst ferns and undergrowth, a mountain stream ripples over rocky edges.
A Zipline with a difference – a double line Zip over two stages (two people slide side by side). Starting at the parking area of the Caves – the teaser Zip is some 180 meters over a deep Karoo ravine and then the 500 meters down to the Cango Caves estate venue over a Game enclosure!
Water slides, Great family FUN!
Water slides are open daily from 11:00 – 17:00. Guests can choose between 30min or one hour sessions.
Please note, children must be able to swim to make use of the water slides.
Situated in a limestone ridge parallel to the well known Swartberg Mountains, you will find the finest drip-stone caverns, with their vast halls and towering formations.

Dutch Reformed Church
Dutch Reformed Church in Calitzdorp were declared a national monument in 1991. Church ceremonies still take place in the church every sunday morning at 09:30.
