Jemimas is one those special places that will linger in your memory when you revisit your trip to Oudtshoorn in your mind. With food that is clearly infused with love and passion, and beautifully presented, with a library spilling out onto a lush garden, housed in a warm atmosphere, this restaurant is firmly on our ‘must visit’ list.
We entice our palates with a view at the selection of delectable starters on the menu. Saldanha mussels, duck liver pate and Cape Malay bobotie sound sensational. For mains, we love the idea of the duck, which is a partially deboned half a Pennybridge duck on mushroom risotto, served with a port and cranberry sauce’ the slow-cooked Karoo lamb. The ‘Three tenors’ makes us giggle. It’s a trio of Ostrich and Venison and Beef fillet, grilled to perfection and served with any 3 sauces.
Now for the real piece de la resistance, you have to experience the dessert menu; chocolate pecan dessert, the Pavlova, Tarte Demoiselles Leroux, with caramel apple tart Tatin with cinnamon ice cream and a small vanilla pod crème brúlèe (WOW!), or the deluxe bread and butter pudding with raisin and Vander hum liqueur bread and butter pudding served with almond ice cream.
