ORCHARD FINE FOODS
There once was a girl who grew up on a farm…where she learnt to cook and bake and preserve all she could lay her hands on. This she did on an old Aga stove. She dreamt about recipes, invented new ones…some more successful than others, but she fell in love with food. Then she grew up, and married a nice boy…who happened to live on a farm as well. Although there was no Aga stove…there was a picturesque orchard and a house that could be converted into a deli and restaurant. So one evening, under the magnificent Klein Karoo stars, she told him about her dream, and together they started building on their new mutual dream.
Her husband converted part of the house into luxurious guest rooms, a deli and a lovely little restaurant, where she could fulfil her child hood dream. The Orchard Deli and Coffee Shop offers seasonal menus, with the best of local produce. Mouth watering dishes are prepared with great care, passion and an intense love for food. Scrumptious cakes and light lunches can be found here, as well as slow cooked, aromatic stews and soups. A wine list, offering local wines, can be paired with each dish, or enjoyed on its own, with a platter of cheeses and preserves.
Next to the deli, is an enchanting little apricot orchard, with tables where guests could wander to…should the weather permit. There is something magical about an orchard. In summer the abundance and smell of the fruit inspires great dishes. During autumn, the lush green leaves are transformed into a canvas of rich auburns and red flames, and in winter, the bare trees take time to rest. You can almost hear them sigh after the busy harvest, as if they take time to enjoy the sun and the rain and nature, anticipating the spring, when they will be dressed in intoxicating sweet blossoms. During each season of the year, this special apricot orchard, set in the beautiful Schoemanshoek valley, sets the background for hearty meals and precious times spent with friends. During summer months, an evening food market is hosted in the Orchard, where local foodies sell their produce to eager, hungry guests.
The orchard can be booked for evening functions as well. Fairy lights, lanterns, big fires and live music (if you wish) set the background for a truly festive evening for the whole family. The soft light of the lanterns and fairy lights and the smell of wood burning, mingling with different spices of a South African braai, never ceases to impress. The orchard, with the majestic Swartberg Mountains as a backdrop, is the perfect venue for small, intimate weddings.
