Overview

Mooiplaas Guesthouse is a lovely Cape-Dutch style guest house in the heart of the Klein Karoo and is situated approximately 10 km from Oudtshoorn.

Set in the peaceful countryside, the guest house offers guests a choice of lovely rooms comprising 5 Family Suites, 18 Luxury Double/Twin rooms and the Superior suites for guests looking for a bit more luxury or on honeymoon.

Some of the rooms are furnished with twin beds that can be converted into king-size beds, queen-size or double beds, and each air-conditioned room has an en-suite bathroom with a bath and/or shower. Each of the rooms is equipped with a heater, tea- and coffee-making facilities, TV. The rooms also have private entrances, and secure parking is provided. Free Wi-Fi is available.

Guests can start their day with a full farmhouse or continental breakfast, and end the day with a gourmet dinner. Light meals and tapas menu are available on request at an additional cost. Mooiplaas Guesthouse boasts a 25 meter infinity pool for guests to cool down on hot days, hiking and walking, as well as mountain biking, or take a private tour of the ostrich farm. The guesthouse is situated within 14 km from the Cango Wildlife Ranch, and 40 km from the world-famous Congo Caves.

In search of a small gift or trinket to take home to remember the trip? Pop in to the Curio Shop and browse through their wonderful variety of Ostrich products. From beautiful feathers and feather products, to decorated eggs and amazing hand crafted ostrich leather products such as handbags, hats etc. There is something for everyone.

The Spa
Our spa facility is one of the best in Oudtshoorn, offering treatments and massages to suit every guest’s needs. Add some extra pampering to your holiday. Treatments include massages, facials, hand & foot treatments, exfoliation, body wraps and more – with the signature range of Kalahari spa and beauty products. Experience a touch of Africa – in the comfort of our luxury farm style surrounding.

Ostrich Farm Tours
Don’t miss our guided tour of the Mooiplaas Ostrich Farm. This working ostrich farm tour is about 1 – 1.5 hours. Our tour guide, Koos, starts by telling you the fascinating story of how Oudtshoorn owes its history to the ostrich. Indeed the ostrich feather started it all … and the rest (as they say)… is history! Book your tours at our reception desk.

Stargazing
This is African big sky country. One of the highlights of being in the Karoo is to gaze up and marvel at the star studded skies at night. Fewer skies could be more beautiful and awe inspiring. From Mooiplaas, we have an extraordinarily beautiful view of the skies. A Stargazing session of approximately 1 hour. More information on this activity available from our reception desk.

Child Friendly Activities
We welcome our younger guests at Mooiplaas Country Guesthouse. Child Friendly Activities include our outdoor play area with jungle gym as well as plenty of free space for them to run around and play in.

  • Babysitting is available at a small cost.
  • We have a jungle gym, swings and the swimming pool (must be supervised by parents).
  • Children’s menus are also available and we can arrange early dining hours.

La Plume offers stylish luxury with a diverse range of accommodation from a Cottage, Private Farm Villa, Luxury Rooms to Luxury Junior Suite, Honeymoon and Superior Suites. With private entrances, sunny verandas and elegant, comfortable antiques, each of the 20 individually furnished air-conditioned rooms and suites offer satellite television, free WiFi, mini bar and abundant comforts.

Apart from the private seating on your veranda from where you can enjoy the breathtaking views of the Olifants River valley, there are also numerous seating spots in the garden where you can leisurely get lost in a novel or just hide away for some quiet “me-time”…

Our English Breakfast buffet is the perfect start to a busy day with fresh fruit platters, a bread and cereal selection, cold meats and cheeses, as well as hot breakfast with special requests made to order.

We offer a daily lunch menu or picnic baskets for our guests exploring the wonders of Klein Karoo.

For dinner enjoy exceptional local wine and traditional home-cooked cuisine meticulously prepared by our chef and served in the spacious, candlelit dining room of the 1902 Victorian homestead.

Farm Tours:

Join Bartel for early morning coffee in the gazebo before an informative, pre-arranged tour of this sustainable working ostrich, alfalfa and cattle farm.  Learn about the day to day activities in the life of a full time farmer, as well as the giant birds and the trials and tribulations of farming with them from one of the few experts on the ostrich industry.

Where to say “I do…”

We have a lovely Victorian gazebo in the centre of the garden with spectacular views of the Olifants River Valley and the Swartberg Mountains as a backdrop where the only thing more breathtaking will be you, the bride…

The same view can be enjoyed as you descend down the two staircases in front of the original homestead to the main terrace below where your happy groom and guests are awaiting your arrival. This is ideal for slightly larger wedding parties.

Alternatively, you can tie the knot in any church of your choice for a more traditional feel.

Oue Werf, circa 1857, is on a working farm in the peaceful Schoemanshoek Valley in the Western Cape, 12 km from Oudtshoorn and 15 km from the Cango Caves.
