CHANDELIER GAME LODGE ACTIVITIES
Chandelier Game Lodge Activities is located between the lush green Garden Route and the wide-open spaces of the Klein (Little) Karoo, with the Outeniqua- and Swartberg mountain ranges as backdrop.
This Oudtshoorn Game Lodge is easily accessible, next to the N12 (Route 62), and is an ideal base from which to explore the “Garden of Eden” along the Garden Route as well as the rich diversity of the Klein Karoo and Route 62.
The lodge is 7 km from Oudtshoorn and 48 km from George as well as George Airport.
Activities at Chandelier:
Shorty and Shiela were rescued from certain death (dood) after Shorty’s mother injured herself and Shiela’s mother had no milk to feed her, during the terrible drought.
Shorty and Shiela are free to re-join the rest of the giraffe herd of nine wild giraffes on the Chandelier Reserve whenever they like, but they get so spoiled by the guests that they prefer to stay close to the restaurant.
When they become sexual active in the next few years, they may decide that it is time to kiss us bye-bye and join the rest of the herd.
Shorty and Sheila are spoilt with a bottle feed at 09h00, 13h00 and 16h00. Guest can then get beautiful photos while giving Shorty and Sheila their much loved milk bottle.
During the rest of the day, guests are welcome to buy food/pellets for the giraffes in the Curio Shop and Shorty and Sheila will eat out of there hands.
The Chandelier Buffalo Adventure consists of a short drive from the Lodge, followed up by an easy hike or relaxing drive to the Buffalo Breeding Herd.
The tour offers the guests an ideal opportunity to come close to these magnificent animals and to photograph them from the safety of the game viewers or from behind a strong electric fence (even though you might experience an adrenaline rush, when the beasts come too close).
Ostrich Farm Tours
Ostriches remain one of the most fascinating attractions in South Africa, therefore great care has been taken on Chandelier to make the tour an unforgettable experience.
This unique and exciting guided tour departs daily between 08h00 and 16h00.
The tour is an easy walk through the farm starting off at the breeding ostriches with their small chicks. Our professional guides will ensure this educational tour is not only fun, but also provides you with a lot of information about the biggest bird in the world. Your guide will explain every aspect of the ostrich, including the anatomy.
Sun-downer Bush Dinner
A perfect ending to an unforgettable day at Chandelier is the popular sun-downer Bush Dinner. Guests are transported to our lapa (shelter) high up in the mountains on open land rovers.
At the lapa we spoil our guests with sun-downers, while they adore the unique sunset over the Swartberg mountains. While the magnificent sunset gives way to the silence of the night, the guides do a traditional South African braai (barbeque), including kudu, ostrich and springbuck.
The traditional African three course dinner includes a variety of traditional South African delicatessen.
After dinner we do guided star gazing from the lapa, where the stars of the Southern Hemisphere are so bright that you can almost touch them.
We follow the star gazing up with a night game drive with spot lights to watch the behavior of the creatures of the night. After the Sun-downer Bush Dinner a peaceful sleep and sweet dreams, in our luxurious tented chalets, are guaranteed.
