FULL DESCRIPTION

You will begin your morning with a complimentary pick-up from your Hotel or Guest House in Oudtshoorn and taken to De Denne where the tour starts.

Your tour will begin with an Ostrich farm tour, you need to put on some comfortable shoes as we will do it farmstyle. Take your camera with as there will be many special moments to capture, especially when you see the chicks hatch. This you do not want to miss.

Travelling along the R328 towards the Swartberg Mountain Pass we have a stop at the Cango Caves, here you can experience the true beauty of these magnificant caves. The herritage tour will offer you quite some interesting facts, explaining how the caves was discovered as well as give you a feeling of how it was years back.

Heading up the Swartberg Pass you will have one of the greatest views of the Klein Karoo! Here we unpack the picnic basket, pour you a glass of wine and let you to enjoy the peaceful and tranquil atmosphere.

After a lazy lunch we drive down the other side of the mountain towards Prince Albert, ringed by vineyards, fruit and Olive farms. True Karoo hospitality at its best. You are more than welcome to shop at the Curio shops before we enjoy a decent cup of coffee at one of the local coffee shops.

Heading back towards Oudtshoorn we have a quick stop at the Meiringspoort waterfall. Meiringspoort is one of the most beautiful passes. The rock formations are so intimidating yet so breathtaking beautiful, definately one of passes you will not forget. The crystal clear water flowing over the rocks into the pool invites you to dive in, but be aware the temparature of the water maybe on the cold side – even during Summer time.

Meiringspoort is now part of a World Heritage Site, it has been flooded several times in the 140 years since it has been established.

After all the exercise we get into the vehicle and headed back to Oudtshoorn through a small town De Rust

(here time stood still for a while) appreciating the diversity of farming on the R62.

We round off your day with an easy drive back to your Hotel or Guest House.

Rust-en-Vrede is an isolated, beautiful waterfall hidden in the hemm of the Swartberg Mountains. The footpath leading to this Gem blooms with wild flowers, ferns and undergrowth. While walking down the trial, complete peace and tranquility will fill your soul, and allow time to stand still for a while. Then the surprise, the waterfall! What a lovely sight! Water from a natural spring rippling over the rocky edges of the mountain, falling down into a natural sparkling pool enviting you to step in.

Rust-en-Vrede is a safe sanctuary for indigenous plants and animals, please do take care of the environment leaving only your foorprints behind.

You will begin your morning with a complimentary pick-up from your Hotel or Guest House in Oudtshoorn before being taken to De Denne Farm where the tour officially starts.

Experience a Klein Karoo Ostrich farm when pariticipating in our farm tour. Put comfortable shoes on and bring your camera with as you will be walking inbetween the Ostrich camps. We are going to do it farm style.

Travelling on the R62 from Oudtshoorn to Calitzdorp, the flora and scenerey will tell you you are in the Klein Karoo.

Wine tasting at De Krans, widely known as one of the leading producers of port-style wines. This Cellar has won 700 medals and awards since 1980. You will not be disappointed. A lovely lunch in the vineyards to finish of the wine tasting.

Heading back towards Oudtshoorn we will do a quick stop at Grundheim, here you have to be daring or just brave. These mampoer and witblits are certainly not for the faint hearted. Potstill Brandy, Witblits (with a definate bite & grip), liqueurs and Gin are Grundheim’s trademarks. “Minwater” (which means Little Water) is a private nature reserve and is situated 24km southwest of the town of Oudtshoorn in the foothills of The Gamka Mountain, an isolated range in the malaria free Klein Karoo (Little Karoo), between the Swartberg and Outeniqua Mountains. It is a rough, mountainous region which includes high hills and a big plateau. From the high ground one is rewarded with breathtaking views of the Eastern Klein Karoo and surrounding mountain ranges. Minwater is adjacent to the Gamka Mountain Nature Reserve.

We offer a real nature adventure for everybody – those who only want to experience the wonders of creation as well as adrenalin junkies!

HIKING TRAILS

Although hikers can use any vehicle trail, there are tracks for hikers only. The distances of the trails range between 1km and 20km and the difficulty rating is easy to moderate. A trail map will be supplied.

It is common knowledge that on foot one experiences nature at its best. It is especially true of an excursion to Minwater – not only will one find the views breathtaking and the changes in vegetation types dramatic, but also a multitude of so-called small things that will fascinate nature lovers.

To make a hiking trip a lasting experience, ask your host to accompany you, even if it is for part of the way only.

Minwater offers a wide range of activities with the focus on awareness of nature in general and the amazing variety of wildlife in the Succulent Karoo in particular, as well as the sensitivity of this biome and the need to protect and conserve its biodiversity.
