This is where you will find one of the most amazing hideaways in the Western Cape.

Set amongst the mountains and the famous red hills, in our own private nature reserve and surrounded by game reserves – a secret place of magnificent views, glorious sunsets, star filled nights without a single city light to distract you, wonderful encounters with wildlife, fabulous food, long nights around the blazing fire

Situated a mere 15 minutes away from the bustling town of Oudtshoorn and even less to the major attractions of the region – from the breathtaking Swartberg Pass, to the wonders of Meiringspoort and everything else that makes Oudtshoorn the tenth most visited region in South Africa!

Our Rooms

Set amongst red Enon hills, and surrounded by game and nature with magnificent views, glorious sunsets, and star filled nights.

There are four chalets set on a hillside overlooking the valley and one cottage in the dry riverbed. Each of the chalets has a private deck with armchairs and cushions, each decorated in a different animal theme. If you are looking for Tourist Graded luxury 4* lodge this is the place for you,and we do endeavour to give you all the comforts that you might need and more.

The Chalets are set 300m and the Cottage about 50m from the main lodge where we light our nightly fire, eat dinner and breakfast. The animal view from here in the evening is spectacular. This makes every evening a really special occasion. The Chalets are directly linked to our two walking trails which take you right up to the hills and valleys and back to your chalet.

Our 4th Self Catering Cottage is tucked away in the river bed. It has its own fireplace and is completely secluded from the main lodge and other Chalets – but guests may, of course, join for breakfast or dinner, as you wish. This is a perfect honeymoon hideaway or for small families.

Private secluded deck overlooking valley, tea/coffee station, en-suite bathroom with shower, mini fridge with bottled water (no charge), aircons, panel heater for winter, bedding and towels provided and a hair dryer.

Located within the main guesthouse, The Golden Nest is a luxuriously appointed room offering a distinctive and comfortable stay. KAROO TWILIGHT
Also located outside the main guesthouse, Karoo Twilight offers a king-size bed (convertible to twin on request) and an en-suite bathroom with a shower and selected amenities. Suitable for couples or twin sharing.

THE BARONESS
Situated in the main guesthouse, The Baroness is a generously proportioned Superior room with vintage-inspired character. A king-size bed, convertible into twin beds on request, creates flexibility for couples or twin sharing. The en-suite bathroom features both a bath and shower. This room is ideal as a honeymoon suite and can interconnect with a neighbouring room to form a family unit

VALLEY VIEW
Valley View is a Superior room in the main guesthouse offering mountain and farm views.       The Ostrich Baron’s Palace offers a choice of 2 comfortable self-catering farmhouses.

      Each farmhouse has its own unique character, but they all have one thing in common — the most breathtaking views of the Swartberg and Outeniqua Mountains and surrounding Klein Karoo landscape.

      PLUMBAGO FARMHOUSE

      The house has five bedrooms and can accommodate twelve people.

          Thabile means “a place of happiness” in the native language Sotho and is situated at the foothills of the Swartberg mountains in the Little Karoo, just outside of Oudtshoorn, South Africa. Your host Len, will warmly welcome you to his Lodge… which has become a natural extension of his home – you will arrive as guests, but leave as friends!

          The lodge’s quiet, farm atmosphere offers sanctuary from the glow and buzz of the city – the perfect oasis for balancing the mind, body and soul. Please know that we are an animal-loving Lodge and Len as well as all of his 4-legged friends, look forward to welcoming you to Thabile Lodge!

          MEIJER’S RUST

          Overview

          Meijer’s Rust is a working farm offering a wide variety of accommodations within the heart of the stunning Meiringspoort, just outside the beautiful village of De Rust.

          You are welcome to enjoy camping and hiking high in the Swartberg Mountains surrounded by fynbos as well as waterfalls.

          Try a farm stay in our historic stone house, perfect for romantic getaways, or perhaps merely savour the Karoo in one of our superb self-catering chalets.

          Our Units

          Stone House

          Romantic Stone cottage, built in the 1850’s, is located on a plateau above Meiringspoort. It sleeps two and you need only bring food and wine to make this an unforgettable experience. The cottage is accessible to vehicles with high clearance and is a good starting point for the farm’s wonderful hiking trails.

          Chalets

          We have four comfortable, fully equipped, self catering chalets. They are set in beautiful, peaceful surroundings and each chalet has a queen size bed with a sleeper couch ideal for children and adults alike, braai area, covered stoep and undercover parking.  Full bathroom boasting a large shower, freestanding bath, double basins, toilet and bidet.

          Milk Barn

          The Milk Barn cottage is a fully equipped, self catering, two roomed cottage sleeping four. The main bedroom has a double bed and the open plan living area has stacked bunk beds ideal for children.

          Upper Campground

          New Bottom Campground

          Our new campsite has place for 10 x 2-4 campers with an ablution block with 2 x complete bathrooms with shower, toilet and basin. There is an outside wash up area. All hot water is provided by a gas geyser and 220v is available.

          The site is situated on the bottom farm bordering on the N12, with a spectacular view of the foot of the Swartberg mountain and Meiringspoort. The site is near the main house and the swimming dam.

          Meijer’s Rust offer lots of activities:

          Hiking Trails

          Our hiking trails start in Meiringspoort and take you to the top of the Swartberg Mountain with 360º views that will take your breath away. They can lead to natural, ancient waterfalls, pools and rare San rock art.

          Mountain Bike Trails

          Mountain bike trails have an elevation level of 500m and are only recommended for the seriously fit. Check with us before you attempt these and we will provide you with the proper documentation and maps.

          Bird Life

          There are over 180 species of birds recorded on the farm. To make the most of your visit we can advise you on the best trails. Attached is a checklist that you can print to use to determine which birds you have seen.

          Plant Life

          The Little Karoo has the second largest plant biome on the planet, only to be exceeded by the tropics. There are many types of fynbos and cacti, making this area a plant lover’s paradise. It is where the geranium was originally discovered in the mid 1800’s and taken to London’s Kew Gardens for domestication. We recommend that you buy a copy of the book “Field Guide to Fynbos” by John Manning. It will help you identify the plants you discover here.
